Elevate your skills
This is woodcraft with ambition, for anyone ready to go past the first cut and make something they’ll keep for years. Across a hands-on session you’ll move between the workbench, the carving horse and the chopping block, learning to read both fresh and seasoned hardwood, and dry pine, with a craftsman’s full kit in your hands: saw and axe, knife and gouge, spokeshave, smoothing plane and profile plane, drill and fretsaw.
What you make is yours to choose. Perhaps a round three-legged stool, or a joined box closed with a clever wooden lock. A carved lantern, a generous serving bowl, or a small box hollowed straight from green wood. The bolder might take on a working automaton, a little mechanical sculpture that comes alive at the turn of a handle, or a proper toolbox in the Japanese or folk tradition, built to carry the tools of the craft.
It’s absorbing, quietly meditative work, the kind that slows the mind and rewards patience. You’ll leave with a real object shaped entirely by your own hands, and a deeper feel for how wood wants to be worked.
For the curious and the committed. Some focus required, no experience needed.
About Mattias,
Mattias Broström is an experienced craftsman in traditional woodworking and sloyd. His training runs deep: furniture-making, the renowned Sätergläntan craft school, and the Higher Handcraft Education at HV Skola in Stockholm, alongside years of hands-on work in cabinetmaking, prototyping, and tool production.
Today he runs his own workshop devoted to slöjd, woodworking, tool-making, and teaching. Generous, precise, and endlessly curious, Mattias has a rare gift for making beginners feel at home with an axe in hand while still challenging seasoned carvers.
All materials are included.
